Νίκος Λαζαρίδης
Nikos Lazaridis
Nikos Lazaridis, a beloved figure in the Pontian community, passed away on December 31, 2015, at the age of 84.
Sorrow spread throughout the Pontian family—and especially within the Union of Pontians of Nikaia–Korydallos, where he served as a lyra player for 50 years—upon hearing the news of his passing. He was laid to rest at the Schisto Cemetery.
He was the lyra player who accompanied Chrysanthos Theodoridis in 1954 on his first 78-rpm record, and the first musician with whom Giannis Kourtidis collaborated at the nightclub “Trygona” in Peristeri.
“Timeless and always close to the associations. He was a quiet man, and perhaps that’s what kept him out of the spotlight,” said Giannis Kourtidis to pontos-news.gr. Also deeply moved was Christos Theodoridis, former dance instructor of the “Argonautai–Komninoi” association in Kallithea, who told pontos-news.gr about the integrity of Lazaridis’ character and how punctual and cooperative he was.
“A lyra player who never adopted the modern style of playing—he faithfully served the Pontian musical tradition for many years, and above all, he was a good man.” With these words, Nikos Zournatzidis, researcher and dance instructor, described the late musician in his statement to pontos-news.gr.
The final farewell was given by Giorgos Kiventidis playing the lyra, accompanied by four Pontians dressed in traditional attire. The family of the late musician asked friends, instead of sending wreaths, to make donations to the Union of Pontians of Nikaia–Korydallos in support of its charitable work.
