Ioannis Maggos - Songwriter - Composer - Pontian Lyra - Vocals
Ioannis Maggos was born in Ptolemaida in August 1981. His love for Pontos and its beautiful traditions that are hidden within Pontos have marked the course from a very young age that he would follow in his life until today.
In May 1989 he began to learn the Pontian lyra, under the guidance of the late Lamprianos Kosmidis, at the Pontian society Enosis Pontion Eordaias. He wrote his first lyrics in September 2000 while a computer science student in Birmingham, England. His first musical composition was written in April 2005 in Thessaloniki. His first recording was released in December 2008. To date, he has collaborated with more than 40 musicians and artists involved in Pontian song.

VIDEO OF THE DAY - JULY 6, 2020
Anastasios Kazantzidis presents a new song entitled "Pontiopoula Horevne" (Pontian children dance). The lyrics were written by Ioannis Maggos and Anastasios Kazantzidis. The music is written by Anastasios Kazantzidis who sang and played Pontian lyra. Lakis Panagiotidis played keyboards and guitar and was responsible for the orchestration of the song. The recording was made at LPStudioRec.
We read in the description of the video:
"Two twin brothers (6 years old) from Anarrahi, a village near Ptolemaida, decided in the difficult days of quarantine to teach a friend (5 years old) from the neighboring village, Emporio, a Pontian dance to spend their time happily. The dance is called "Omal" and its learning was done remotely by the two brothers.
However, they did not leave the opportunity and with the help of their kindergarten teacher, Ms. Eugenia Katsali, they planned the method themselves, with the same pace and four "robot bee - bots." They made four Pontian dancer dolls and placed them on the robots without them touching each other, wanting to emphasize that in these difficult and unprecedented days for all of us we can not hold hands to dance.
So they named their project "Let's dance with the hands of the soul" or "Pontiopoula Horevne" as is the title of the song.
At the same time, they wanted to emphasize that if all the necessary measures are taken, keeping the necessary distances, "the soul can dance with its own hands."
This project became known to the children of their neighborhood (kindergarten & elementary school) and after the lifting of the quarantine they gathered in small groups of 3 - 7 members and taking all the necessary measures, they danced with "The hands of the soul".
As a singer and musician, my colleagues and I became aware of this action of young children and wrote a Pontian piece of music in which the lyrics are in the Pontian dialect, stating that the children listen to the Pontian lyra, a beautiful song, they move slowly and they hold "the hands of the soul". They love one another, they sleep, they smile, they all hope in love and they keep dancing."
How beautifully stated! We wish all the participants of the song the best of success!

"KAPOTE ESANE POLI"
Stathis Pavlidis - Dimitris Xenitopoulos
Music Production.

A new song titled "Kapote Esane Poli" (Once there were many) has been released by Stathis Pavlidis (vocals) and Dimitris Xenitopoulos (lyra and composer). Lyrics were written by Ioannis Maggos.
Dimitris Mitroulis plays daouli, and the orchestration, mixing and mastering was done by George Moisiadis. The song was produced by G.K. Music Production.
We had the pleasure of speaking to Ioannis Maggos about this song:
"Once There Were Many" ... this is the title I chose for my new song, wanting to dedicate a bit of my songwriting to "angels" of another era. An age that differed in many essentials of life from today, whether it is about people's emotions or their behavior. A flame in our heart continues to light up and remind us of stories we have lived with people who may not be near us anymore. Stories full of color, true love, indescribable joy and great respect for every human being. How much attention, how much reverence, how much love we have heard the older generation give us their advice, taken from their own lives, from their personal experiences? Unforgettable days and nights that unfortunately do not come back and which, however, we must remember forever, because these stories remind us of something very important ... that we are human beings. It is for these angels I want this song to be sung.
I also want to mention the excellent musical composition and performance of the song by my very good friend Dimitris Xenitopoulos. Indeed, the idea of creating such a song was given to me by Dimitris who first sent me the music. As he has done before, he touched my heart and gave me the proper guide to write what he really wanted to hear. I thank him very much for everything and truly admire him, not only as a musician but above all as a friend! I think we managed to bring this song decades back and, given the interpretation of Stathis, it was certain that the song would be written in the style of his late father, Theodoros Pavlidis, one of the most beloved Pontian artists of that time. This was what I had in mind throughout the recording of the song. I was writing the song as if Thodoris were to sing it, and he ultimately did! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Stathis!
Finally, I would like to thank all the musicians involved in producing the song because they managed to deliver the sound we wanted to hear in the most professional way possible.
I hope you all love this song as much as we did. Happy listening!"
We wish Stathis, Dimitris and Ioannis good luck with their song!
