Ο Χριστόφορος Κοσμίδης γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα, με απώτερη καταγωγή του τα Κοτύωρα (Ορντού) του Πόντου και γαλουχήθηκε με τις Ποντιακές αξίες και την Ποντιακή μουσική , αποκτώντας ακούσματα λόγω της ενασχόλησης, σε ερασιτεχνικό επίπεδο, του πατέρα του (Ιωάννη Χ. Κοσμίδη) με τη λύρα. Η επαφή του με τον Ποντιακό χορό άρχισε σε πολύ νεαρή ηλικία , αρχικά μέσω των γλεντιών και μετέπειτα των συλλόγων, αλλά στο τέλος κυριάρχησε η αγάπη του για τη μουσική.
Αν και το πρώτο του μουσικό ερέθισμα ήταν ο ήχος της λύρας, τον κέρδισε ο ήχος του αγγείου και της φλογέρας τα οποία είναι και τα όργανα που ασχολείται σε επαγγελματικό επίπεδο μέχρι σήμερα.
Ως μουσικός, έχει συμμετάσχει σε πολυάριθμες εκδηλώσεις και γλέντια κι έχει εμφανιστεί σε διάφορα Ποντιακά μαγαζιά (Κορτσόπον, Μίθριο, Λεμόνα, Αθήνα ‘82 κλπ). Αξίζει να αναφερθεί η πολυετής παρουσία του στο FDF, ένα φεστιβάλ της ομογένειας στην California των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών.
Έχει συνεργαστεί με όλους τους καταξιωμένους Πόντιους καλλιτέχνες σε ζωντανές εμφανίσεις αλλά και δισκογραφίες.
Επίσης, το προσωπικό του κανάλι στο Youtube (theChrisKosmidis), περιέχει τις δημοφιλείς σειρές ηχογραφήσεων Tulum Live και Γαβάλ Live, με συνολικό αριθμό προβολών που ξεπερνούν το 1.000.000.
Πέραν της Ποντιακής παράδοσης, ανέπτυξε ενδιαφέρον και για την παράδοση των υπολοίπων περιοχών της χώρας μας. Αυτό τον ώθησε να αποφοιτήσει απ’ το Τμήμα Επιστήμης και Φυσικής Αγωγής του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, με ειδίκευση στον Ελληνικό Παραδοσιακό Χορό. Επιπλέον, παρακολούθησε μαθήματα Ευρωπαϊκής Μουσικής στο Ωδείο «Φίλιππος Νάκας».
Τα τελευταία χρόνια, ασχολείται έντονα με την Τσαμπούνα και την Ασκομπαντούρα, συγγενή όργανα του Αγγείου, απ’ τις περιοχές της Κρήτης και γενικότερα της νησιωτικής Ελλάδας.
Christoforos Kosmidis was born in Athens, with ancestral roots in Kotyora (modern-day Ordu) of Pontos. He was raised with Pontian values and music, having been exposed to it from an early age through his father, Ioannis Ch. Kosmidis, who played the lyra as an amateur musician. His involvement with Pontian dance began at a very young age, initially through celebrations and later through cultural associations, but in the end, his love for music prevailed.
Although his first musical influence was the sound of the lyra, he was ultimately captivated by the tones of the aggeion or tulum (an ancient wind instrument) and the flogera — the instruments he has continued to play professionally to this day.
As a musician, he has participated in numerous events and celebrations and has performed at various Pontian venues, including Kortsopon, Mithrio, Lemona, and Athina ’82. Notably, he has maintained a long-standing presence at the FDF (Folk Dance Festival), a major Greek diaspora event held in California, USA.
He has collaborated with many acclaimed Pontian artists, both in live performances and in recordings. His personal YouTube channel, theChrisKosmidis, features the popular recording series Tulum Live and Gaval Live, with total views exceeding 1,000,000.
Beyond the Pontian tradition, Christoforos also developed an interest in the broader folk traditions of Greece. This led him to graduate from the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science at the University of Athens, specializing in Greek Traditional Dance. In addition, he studied European Music at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory.
In recent years, he has been actively involved with the tsambouna and askobandoura — bagpipe-like instruments related to the aggeion — from Crete and the wider Aegean island region.
